From Advocacy to Action Activity

Public service announcements create a forum for learners to actively participate in a project that will allow them to become stewards of and advocates for social change.

What do you want the world to know? That's the central question asked when you are creating a public service announcement (PSA), which any message promoting programs, activities or services of federal, state, or local governments or the programs, activities or services of non-profit organizations.

Often in the form of commercials and print ads, PSAs are created to persuade an audience to take a favorable action. PSAs can create awareness, show the importance of a problem or issue, convey information, or promote a behavioral change.

Each buddy group will be separated into five smaller groups with the goal of creating a PSA about a specific area. Students will create, write, produce, and film their 30 second to 1 minute PSA's on October 13 during this block of time. At the end of the buddy group, the entire buddy group will watch the products.

Even more exciting is that by the end of the day we will have more than 100 PSA's created by Marist students. It is our goal that we will be able to show the best ones at the end of the day or throughout MBC's throughout the rest of the year.

The five PSA themes will be:

Group 1 - Loose Change to Loosen Chains PSA

Group 2 - Romans 1:7 PSA

Group 3 - Causes of Human Trafficking PSA

Group 4 - Harms of Human Trafficking PSA

Group 5 - Safe Harbor Amendment PSA
